Life can be confusing and full of challenges.
— I am here to listen.
“Hi, I’m Sophia Baum,
Psychologist and Psychotherapist
in Silkeborg.”
Welcome - I’m looking forward to meeting you.
Have you been feeling low, lacking in drive, more exhausted than usual or thin-skinned and restless lately? Perhaps you can hardly feel joy any more.
Are your thoughts going round in circles and affecting your sleep? Do you sometimes think that you are just barely functioning? Do you suffer from self-doubt or do you often think that you are not worth anything, that you are not good enough?
Perhaps your life is overtaken by fears and worries. Do you feel an oppressive feeling rising up inside you when you just think about going outside or to certain places? Perhaps you have experienced panic first-hand.
All of these and more are things that my patients tell me, and that affect thousands of people, even if they are rarely shown to the outside world.
I’m here to listen to you.
Welcome to Psychologist & Psychotherapist Sophia Baum
Psychotherapy in English and German in Silkeborg
Hi, my name is Sophia Baum, Psychologist & Psychotherapist.
Anyone of us can find themselves in circumstances where our previous resources and coping skills are no longer enough. If such a situation lasts for a long time, psychological symptoms can develop.
It is often the first, most difficult step to ask for help. I believe this shows strength and the will to change. In psychotherapy, we will work together to get to the root of the difficulties you are experiencing, reactivate your strengths and resources and find ways towards positive change.
Are you interested in psychotherapy in Silkeborg or online therapy? Contact me on phone number 81 98 39 88 or send an email to psy-sophiabaum@protonmail.dk.

I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist (Master of Science) from the University of Jena, Germany. My qualifications have been recognised by the Danish Board of Psychologists, which means that my studies are equivalent to the Danish psychology education (cand.psych.). I am also a Licensed Psychotherapist, specialising in behavioural therapy for adults.

Overcome mental illness
An atmosphere of trust at psychotherapy in Silkeborg
I offer you a safe, confidential space to work on even the most difficult issues and to gain new, healing experiences and insights about yourself, your feelings and your life story. Using behavioural therapy, but also experiential and emotion-oriented techniques, I will support you in finding a better way of dealing with your mental illness and ultimately finding your way to a new, healthy self. I will always try to organise the treatment in a way that best suits you and your therapy goals.
I offer psychotherapy either in my practice in Silkeborg or online if your home is too far away. As I'm still working on my Danish language skills, I primarily offer therapy in English or German. I understand Danish quite well, so you are of course also welcome as a Dane if you are comfortable in English as well.
Feel free to contact me so that we can discuss the possibilities of working together. Enquiries about treatment can be made by phone, e-mail or via the contact form at the bottom of the page.

About me
M.Sc. Psychologist and Psychotherapist
Born in Rostock, Germany, in 1990 and mother of a young son, my husband's work brought me to Denmark in 2021. Thanks to the beautiful nature, the culture and the lovely people, the decision to stay was not difficult.
After completing my studies in psychology (Bachelor of Science) and clinical psychology (Master of Science) from 2009 to 2015, I quickly developed the desire to deepen my knowledge of psychotherapeutic work. In 2016, I began my training in psychotherapy with a focus on behavioural therapy for adults at the Institute of the German Society for Behavioural Therapy (DGVT) in Bonn, Germany.
I gained therapeutic experience both in an inpatient context in a clinic for psychosomatic rehabilitation and in an outpatient setting in the outpatient psychotherapy clinic of the DGVT Institute. In addition to classic behavioural therapy, I enjoy working in depth with experiential and emotion-oriented techniques, for example from schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), as well as with various mindfulness and relaxation exercises.
My qualifications have been recognised by the Danish Board of Psychologists and my training is therefore equivalent to Danish psychology degree (cand.psych.). I am also a member of the Dansk Psykolog Forening and the Dansk Psykoterapeutforening.
How can I help?
In my psychotherapy practice as well as online, I offer individual sessions in English and German in the form of behavioural therapy for various mental illnesses, such as:
Depression
Anxiety disorders (phobias such as social phobia or agoraphobia, panic disorder, generalised anxiety disorder)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Personality disorders (such as borderline personality disorder)
Obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD)
Eating disorders
Other common therapy topics are:
building higher self-esteem
understanding and dealing better with emotions
reducing perfectionism
improving sleep
improving communication skills
learning to set boundaries
Therapy duration
In psychotherapy there is rarely a "quick fix", as most people have been struggling with their problems for quite some time before I meet them in my therapy practice. Of course, it is entirely up to you to decide how many sessions you wish to have. In most cases, however, the problematic thought and behaviour patterns behind the psychological illness have existed for months - if not years - and logically cannot be changed in 2 or 3 sessions. It also takes some time to create a supportive, trusting atmosphere in which you feel comfortable and can express yourself openly.
I therefore recommend giving the therapy process enough time, around 10-20 sessions. It is not uncommon for clients to opt for longer and more in-depth therapy, for example because they want to resolve more complex issues or because they see great value in self-knowledge and self-development through psychotherapy.
Feel free to contact me and arrange the first 3 exploratory sessions at a reduced price, whether you are interested in psychotherapy in Silkeborg or online therapy.
Change takes time
